I didn't call it a gutter religion, I told Manny he was in the gutter (an idea he embraced wholeheartedly, I might add). And, I said this 3 posts AFTER you attacked me the first time.
You said:
During the Middle Ages Christians often forced Jewish scholars to defend Judaism and Talmud in court in front of Christian clerics. Surprise, surprise – in every trial Judaism was found to be false religion to be superceded by Christianity and Talmud - a heretical anti-Christian book to be burned. Actually Talmud is just a compilation of Jewish Law and discussions on the Laws’ meaning. It does not concern itself with Christianity (unlike New Testament’s preoccupation with Judaism).
and Goldsnow said
The writers of Talmud had no way of knowing anything about writers of The New Testament or even birth of the another Religion (Christianity) as they were only antagonistic to the Idol worshiping...
Both of you are very, very wrong. Jesus himself is explicitly mentioned (defiled is a better word).
- After a series of sexual allegations against him, the Talmud states that his punishment in hell is to be immersed in boiling excrement.
- The Talmud also contains a precept which instructs Jews to burn (in public, if possible) any copy of the New Testament which comes into their hands. That fits my definition of "preoccupation". -g- Not only is this still in force, but it is still practiced. In 1980, Yad Le'akhim, an organization sponsored by the Israeli Ministry of Religion, held a public burning of hundreds of copies of the New Testament in Jerusalem.
- There are passages commanding every Jew who passes a Gentile cemetery to curse the mothers of the dead.
There is more, but I think I have made my point. To be clear, my point is that Manny, LV, and goldsnow's behavior is very destructive to their own people. Unthinking reactions to any criticism has created a fanatical and decidedly unscholarly atmosphere in the study of Jewish history. This has spilled over into the Nazi-like attitude of Israelis towards Palestinians and the rest of the world.
