One of the big mistakes NVTL made was not listening to what wireless consumers really wanted. I still have and use my Minstrel III Wireless Modem for my Palm IIIx. Back in '99, Novatel promised a 56K wireless modem in 2000. The whole wireless community got excited. But Novatel had to follow Metricom in defiance to what wireless internet users wanted. The handwriting was on the wall here but Novatel refused to listen: Very few were going to pay $80 a month for MCOM's modem. Novatel is still holding on to the Metricom Dream and will probably end up just like MCOM: Bankrupt.

I always thought one of the first rules of business was to listen to what your customer wanted.

Many Palm Freaks became upset with Novatel for discontinuing production of that Modem for the Palm IIIc.

I never had a position, long or short, in this stock. But I sure sent NVTL a few Email messages over the past year to stay away from Metricom and make the 56K modem it had promised.
