OK, I couldn't resist,

You can't edit compressed video. So, what you do is run the uncompressed video around the plant to various routers for effects and editing. Multiple locations may do various minupulations to the video, also, digital tape machines and some hard store devices don't like compressed input.
Too, you loose something everytime you compress and decompress.

This is not a threat to DIVI since the finished product is then compressed for distrubution.
