But my point is that you do not have to be an expert. One must diversify their portfolio. Buying a tech fund is not diversification since tech rises and falls as a unit. I have allways allocated 50% of my 401K in treasury fund. 6% is not fun, but it is better than -60%. The remainder has been spilt amongst tech and value. At the same time, I have paid attention to what is going on. For the last two years, I have been ridiculed for pointing out the obvious. You do not need to be an expert to understand the basic rules of investing. Remember that most experts were busy telling us that this was a "new paradigm". And the fund expert managers bought into the crap and rode the bear all the way down.

If you want a nanny fund + gov't to plan your future then more power to you. I prefer to having the responsibility for my future.
