Math problem on CSCO..... I have noticed that there have been many intelligent postings about short term trades with CSCO.

Your opinion or that of other short term traders would be appreciated.

My Last sale on CSCO was at 19.90 about 8days ago. And at the time of the sales I put in a buy order for the same number of shares at 18.69.( filled on July 5th) In this respect I got what I asked for so no complaint from me.

Today with CSCO trading at 16 I purchased an equal number of shares at 16.25. So now my cost basis is 17.47.

I normally do not average my cost downward, but in this case I did, thinking that this gave me two near term future options.

Option one would be sell the entire number of shares at at least 18.

Option two would be to use all the shares as a covered call write at the 17 1/2 strike as soon as CSCO trades above 17 1/2. (darn near any day including today). The idea here being to capture as much call premium as possible.

My question is this: is dollar cost averaging down a good strategy for CSCO, or any other stock? And is there a better way to manage this situation?

Thanks in advance, all opinions considered.

Jerome
