Brian,

The problem with the 900-megahertz Pentium 3 Xeon chip can cause servers to freeze up and temporarily stop working, Intel spokesman Robert Manetta said. No server users have been affected - the flaw was found in a lab by a customer in March, Manetta said.

I guess this will be a surprise to Paul and semiconeng, since within last 24 hours, they claimed that these parts are selling now, and are available. Paul even suggested that I call IBM and order one.

But I don't blame them. Both Paul and semiconeng believe that if something is in an Intel press release, it is true.

In the meantime, Intel customers - server manufacturers - can switch to a 700-megahertz Xeon chip or wait until the fixed 900-megahertz models come out in August.

LOL. I think Intel is improving the execution. They said it will take whole 2 months to "fix" the 1.13 Piii (which is still MIA 11 months later).

Now, they say they will fix it in 1 month.

Joe

PS: Another piece of evidence that semiconeng is really "in the know". You probably get to overhear a lot when you make your daily rounds adding paper to laser printers, and emptying the recycling bins. I bet the paper recycling bin of the marketing department are a goldmine, and are the source of his "we will bury you" posts.
