A few things Paul Allen said to me last month...
It was during our discussion, following the Charter Communications shareholder's meeting on June 6, 2001.
I had asked several questions during the meeting regarding Charter's relationship with InfoSpace (their Digeo Broadband interactive-TV "partner") during the meeting's Q&A period...following the "official" business part of the meeting.
At the end of the meeting, I had a follow-up private conversation with the CEO of CHTR. When I asked him again about their Interactive-TV "partner," he said that I should talk to Paul about that.
So, Paul and I had our second semi-private chat (the first one being the year before). However when I asked Paul about what the h*ll had happened to GNET, and the "merger" with INSP...Paul got the most severe look that I've ever seen in his eyes (he tends to be very soft-spoken, and a verbally shy guy in public), but his voice definitely changed in both its intensity and volume...
And Paul responded to my question with this,
"I put a LOT of money into Go2Net, and MANY of us are NOT at all happy with how things have turned out"!!!
And then he also said to me (painfully chuckling), "Yeah, I guess many of us could have sold (INSP and/or GNET) at the HIGH."
IMHO, there are many things that a person could read "between the lines" in his comments to me. I have my own. |
