Buy-side orders:

1) Place order to buy 200 shares of ASCL (Ascential Software). These guys recently ripped IBM off for the tune of $1 billion in cash ($800M after taxes) by selling off their Informix database software.. this side of their business was a dead duck, and management did the right thing. That's exactly what you have to do - when you've got a product that isn't #1 or #2 on the market, you've got to dump the thing. And that they did.

Judging by the stock price, the market thinks that management won't be able to get their existing business off the ground. I like the risk/reward, and I like the fact that they're only about $25M out of a $350M stock repurchase program. If they complete it all at $5/share, they have the ability to take out 65 million shares out of their shares outstanding of 288 million.

Order: Buy 200 ASCL @ 4.80, order expires July 20, 2001 if not filled.
