| Rarebird - I am curious to know...exactly which network was this 56K wireless modem supposed to connect to, or was NVTL supposed to build that too? CDPD modems can deliver plenty of capability if they are used with the right technology. I am not convinced that the market needs, wants or is ready to pay for high-speed wireless mobile Internet access, not, at least, in numbers sufficient to justify building the network. If NVTL spent more making the Palm III Minstrel than they would make selling it, would you have been happy? NVTL is an arms merchant, whether CDPD, GPRS or Ricochet or the next technology to emerge ultimately wins, they are positioned to benefit. There is quite a bit of skepticism about the wireless space now, in proportion to the hype of last year but there is real value that can be delivered through these technologies. I am still willing to wait and see how this plays out, but then again, I have a vantage point from within the industry so perhaps that colors my perception. I guess we will see! |
