I Disagree. When everything is illegal, we exist at the whim of the police and bureaucrats. That is where we are headed. We are achieving anarchy, just from the opposite direction.

Is every politician corrupt? Given enough time in Washington - eventually yes.

To answer your question Why do we keep letting them have ever more power over us? the alternative is anarchy.
