Network, CDPD. Novatel said it would produce a 56K Minstrel Wireless Modem in 2000 back in '99 for the Palm III series. The problem with Novatel IMO is that they misunderstood the wireless market. The Wireless Freaks weren't interested in paying $80 for MCOM's Richochet Modem with spotty coverage. How many hours a day does a person surf the web using wireless? Why would anyone want to pay those outrageous prices? Bottom Line: NVTL got caught up in the hype of Merlin. Now MCOM owes them 26M. Fat chance they'll ever get that money back. It'll take years. NVTL became public because their Minstrel III wireless modems became very popular for the Palm Freaks. NVTL then ignored us. Thus, we ignored them. Bye Bye NVTL. Sprint PCS wins. The moral of the story is that you should never ignore the hand that feeds you.
