FED TALK: There have been rumors that the Fed is holding (or held) an emergency meeting to address to continuing strains in the financial markets, particularly in the emerging markets. But the strains do not appear to great enough to warrant a meeting. Moreover, just yesterday, FOMC voting member Poole said that foreign risks are a side issue. Nevertheless, the strains in the markets are great enough to give credence to the notion of either an emergency meeting or an emergency telephone conference. Expect the Fed to wait for developments in the emerging markets to sort themselves out first or to wait for unusual strains in U.S. markets to develop before a surprise cut is announced.
