It's always a good idea to involve the customer service department of the manufacturer in these kinds of situations. There are no doubt telephone numbers and addresses in the owner's manual. This is true even after the fact of having to pay the dealer's bill. I had great success with Honda after having to pay for expensive alignment which the dealer said was caused by striking something. I wrote a long letter to Honda saying that there was no way this could have happened, and the end result was full reimbursement from "the factory." Over the years I have dealt with Toyota reps, too, in similar situations with successful outcomes. IMO, these people are a lot easier to deal with than the Dealers themselves. You just have to be sure your son sticks to his story!
