Thanks Dan. That's the way I read the same language in Schedule D, Works out to a dollar-for-dollar deduction.

I wasn't absolutely sure because some folks had been saying LTCG is treated differently since it has a different tax rate, and tax law is not necessarily rational or consistent. Knowing the government, it would try to tax you on the ST capital gains and limit the ability to deduct long-term capital losses except against LTCG.
