Sales Climb as FONAR Sells New Stand-Up MRI to California Radiologists;
Contract Includes Option to Buy Four More

MELVILLE, N.Y., Jul 12, 2001 (BW HealthWire) -- FONAR Corporation
(NASDAQ:FONR), The Patient-Friendly(TM) MRI Company, announced today another
sale of its Indomitable(TM), the StandUp MRI(TM). The scanner was purchased by
True Imaging Medical Group of Long Beach, California.

John Cutrone, M.D., one of the lead radiologists gave his reasons for choosing
Indomitable(TM) to Sol Ginzburg, FONAR's vice president of sales: "We are very
pleased to be introducing Positional Imaging in California. We expect to
purchase an additional four of FONAR's Stand- Up MRI(TM) systems to create a
network of weight-bearing, positional MRI scanners.

"Indomitable(TM) can do more than what other MRI scanners on the market do,"
said Dr. Cutrone. "It scans patients upright. Every other MRI can only scan
patients lying down. Consequently, those scanners don't allow radiologists to
visualize anatomical structures in the weight-bearing positions - the very
positions in which patients have symptoms, often of pain and discomfort. If
we're only able to look for problems with the patient lying down, they could be
improperly evaluated and the problems may even go undetected."

Dr. Cutrone continued, "We do a substantial amount of industrial and Workers'
Compensation cases, which means that we see a lot of neck, back and spine
injuries. FONAR's Stand-Up MRI(TM) allows us to make a much more thorough and
accurate diagnostic evaluation. After learning about FONAR's new StandUp MRI(TM)
scanner, we chose to be part of what we believe is the future of MRI. It will
give us the edge in a very competitive marketplace."

Mr. Ginzburg said, "The group is constructing a brand new building for its
scanner. It will be an excellent West Coast showcase for FONAR technology. Of
course, we're also very pleased that the group intends to purchase four more
scanners from FONAR."

The Company's complete product line includes the Echo(TM), a compact MRI
designed to sell at a low price; the QUAD(TM)12000, a four-post, 0.6 Tesla Open
MRI; the Pinnacle(TM), a 0.6 Tesla Open MRI with superconducting magnet
technology; and the FONAR 360(TM), available in its "open sky" configuration for
diagnostic purposes and, in the future, in its "interventional 360"
configuration for MRI-guided interventions. The Company's works-in-progress
scanner, the mpExtremity(TM), is an in-office MRI unit that scans only
extremities (arms, knees, wrists, etc.) in multiple, weight-bearing positions.
