Alcatel expands Telmex's network in Mexico
Paris, July 12 -- Alcatel (Paris: CGEP, NYSE: ALA) has signed a contract with Telefonos de Mexico (Telmex) to expand its fixed network. The expansion will increase the current network capacity to meet the growing demand in Mexico and provide full coverage all over the country.
The extension includes the provision of Alcatel global network solutions based on the Alcatel 1000 switching equipment. Alcatel will also provide and install for Telmex several thousands of trunk lines. Deliveries have already started and the network should be operational by the end of 2001.
Jaime Chico Pardo, General Director of Telmex, said: The current investment will allow Telmex to increase its network capacity and offer full nation-wide coverage. This contract is part of Telmex s strategy to develop its telecommunication network in the country and provide high quality services.
Arman Hazan, Alcatel's Country Senior Officer (CSO) for Mexico, added: This contract reflects the trust that Telmex has for the quality and efficiency of our products and services in the Mexican market. This is an important milestone for Alcatel in Mexico and this underlines the success of Alcatel s core network solutions.
