Arno,

You hit the nail precisely. Most analysts--as well as many SIers--tend to ignore the strategic value of a company; instead, they focused on products/costs/inventories etc EXCLUSIVELY. Microsoft has achieved its present status primarily through its (or Bill's) strategic vision and all the other operational thrusts fell into place accordingly.

An analogy can be drawn with Cisco in the networking sector. I still maintain CSCO will gradually enhance its sector dominance via strategic maneuvering; i.e. IOS, end-to-end solutions, and new products not entirely dislocated from current installed base. John Chambers figured this out quite a while ago and so far it has been proven that he is right.

Regards,
Ibexx
