The GPS is a marvel. And traditional navigation skills are a must as a back-up. We race sailboats. Before the season we noted the location of each buoy by sailing to them and inputing them to the gps. On one race a buoy was half sunken and could not be seen for the wave action. We found it with the GPS and gained about four spots in the process.
