Adam,

I, too, am surprised that they are not trying to merge with a bigger player. I used the term "niche" when I described RBAK. While true, it is an important niche.

One point with regards to RBAK...Those notes come due in 05. I am of the belief that no matter what interest rates are, entities are unwilling to grant credit....

With regards to their "poison pill", it still doesn't mean they couldn't be taken over. It just has to be a "friendly" takeover.

As to LU-ALA, I'm surprised that Lucent didn't jump. I have wondered aloud this statement: If LU chapters out, will Lucent's BOD and MGMT face severe shareholder lawsuits since MGMT didn't act in the best interests of the shareholders. From what I read about the LU-ALA merger, both parties agreed on price. It was the "control" issue that prevented the merger.

With MOT and NOK feeling the pain from "Telesim" (is that the company?), I wonder what Lucent shareholders don't know with regards to Lucent's vendor financing.
