Bombardier Receives a $300 Million Order From RATP for Paris Metro
MONTREAL, QUEBEC--JULY 12, 2001 - 10:56 EDT Bombardier Transportation, in consortium with Alstom Transport and Technicatome, has received an order from RATP (the transport authority for Paris) for 161 five-car MF-2000-type rail rapid transit units - a total of 805 rail rapid transit cars.
The total contract is for approximately Cdn$900 million (695 million euros) and Bombardier's share of the contract is approximately Cdn$300 million (230 million euros). Bombardier is responsible for the manufacture of 1,610 bogies; 805 painted and insulated passenger cars, fitted with windows and floors; and 322 complete driving cabs. All of the production will be undertaken at Bombardier's plant in Crespin. Delivery of the vehicles will take place between the end of 2003 and the end of 2014.
These state-of-the-art rapid transit units will replace part of the existing rapid transit rolling stock in Paris. The new rolling stock will particularly address travel quality and passenger comfort and the passenger compartments and cabs will be completely air-conditioned. The vehicles, lower than the existing stock by 30 mm, will facilitate boarding by people with reduced mobility. In addition, the wide intercar linkages will offer an uninterrupted view of the vehicle interiors.
Commenting on the order, Jacques Lamotte, Executive Vice-President of Bombardier Transportation, Europe, said: "Bombardier has a long partnership with RATP in France and is proud to once again be working with the well-respected operator." He also underlined "the innovative aspect of the interior and exterior design for this new series of vehicles".
