HONG KONG: PCCW Promoted New Plan For Internet Development 2001-07-12

HONGKONG, July 11, AsiaPort -- PCCW, a telecommunication giant of HongKong, recently proclaimed a new internet development plan. It hopes to maintain company's profit to promote its business growth in HongKong with expanding broadband service.
Li Zekai, president of PCCW expressed that although the internet business only occupy a small proportion of the whole enterprise valuation, the new development plan his company promoted will further increase HongKong's broadband users while reduce the operative cost by regulating related businesses.
It is introduced that, PCCW will invest US$ 190 million in internet business in this year. Moreover, the company's investment in internet business in the future two years won't exceed US$100 million.
PCCW, a listed enterprise in HongKong, stays at leading status in Asian Competitive Communication Corp.. According to statistics, PCCW boasts 230 thousand users of broadband in HongKong and it is predicted the number will surpass 500 thousand. HongKong is one of the most developed regions in broadband application across the planet, 7.41 percent of every one hundred users own broadband.
