I'd be willing to bet that you did have a pre-judged opinion.

Let me explain, very briefly, my training which should explain both my questions and my posts.

One of my earlier career employments was to "debate" positions for a particular agency in the government. My supervisor at the time demanded the following from all of us within the group.

Before going into any debate be completely prepared to argue either side. If you can't argue your opponents position better than he can, you'll lose, because he will blindside you every time. Know his position better than he does and find the weak points in his position and go for the throat.

Edit: The agencies that we debated positions with played by the same guidance. You had to be on your toes.

It was a fun place to work.
