Bill/WA to Earlie:

Just back from 1 1/2 months in upper BC and Yukon doing video work. Report on the State Of the Prov's.
In short, everything sucks! With POG low, almost all mines shut down. The only equipment working seems to be the equipment shutting down the mines. Timber prices low and haulers are hoping for some activity (maybe) in Sept. Dawson City (Klondike area) relies on 80% mining & timber, 20% tourism, and the tourist aren't spending.

In Stewart/Hyder (Stewart in BC:Hyder in AK) area, population in Stewart has gone from 1500 to 500. A-frame homes that haven't been lived in for 1 to 1 1/2 yrs are selling for 5K to 8K Canadian. Met a guy from Arkansas that bought one (put in on his VISA) and is going to use it as a summer home.

BTW, the manager of the campground I stayed has a son working at the Eskay (Homestake) mine showed me some samples from the mine. Said it was one of the richest (high quality) finds they've had in a long time. The gold is actually in the blackest part of the samples and they are going to send it all to Japan to be processed.

Going back up in 2 weeks to video the blacks and grizz feeding on the Salmon River.

Regards,
Bill/WA
