The ORBIS service is available to students at our local Community College. As a townie, I get to use the ILL - Interlibrary Loan service. It is a great and wonderful thing, and is also available at our local Deschutes County Library. I'm not much of a collector of books and often prefer to simply borrow them from a lending library. Tough way to build a library, I know, but everytime I stare at my 1982 Uniform Building Code, I wonder what the point is. :)
I once worked as a contractor to the showrooms in San Francisco. There, I installed an exceptionally fancy library panelling display in one showroom. As I recall, a small 12x15 room was offered for about $35,000, and this back in 1992, when that was real money. The absolute charming thing about it was that the showroom manager was able to go out and buy classic books by the foot to fill the shelves. <bg>

The reason I'm considering a lending library copy is precisely because anything that isn't copyrighted in the last couple of years, or at least after LTCM, isn't really dealing with the contemporary realities. :)
