They should all be fixed. There, I feel better. This hits a hot button for me. I worked with women who reproduced like rabbits, and then turned the kids over to social services as if we were fulltime nannies. They refused to relinquish parental rights (this was before the courts could terminate rights) and then, if tubal ligation was suggested, would start screaming about their right to have children. Fathers? Who knew where they were?
I am totally unmoved by the argument that we are somehow punishing this man, taking away his "rights", because he isn't financially able to support children. Of course we are. What right is it that covers a man rutting like a rabbit and leaving a trail of needy children behind for us to raise? What about the rights of the children? When I took driver's ed they informed us that driving a car is not a right, it's a privilege. Surely the bearing of children should be considered at LEAST as much of a privilege as getting behind the wheel. Why CAN"T we take away a right of someone who so clearly abuses it? Reproductive rights should entail the whole enchilada, supporting, nurturing, BEING there. I am a fascist pig. |
