TAIWAN PRESS: Vanguard To Cut DRAM Production By 20-25%
TAIPEI (Dow Jones)--Taiwan's Vanguard International Semiconductor Corp. will cut its 64Mb dynamic random access memory (DRAM) chip production by 20% to 25% this month, Economic Daily News reports, quoting a company executive.
Vanguard, a unit of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSM), will also cease producing 16Mb DRAM chips next month, the paper says.

Vanguard is the first Taiwan company since DRAM prices started falling to announce it will to reduce production of DRAM chips, the paper says.

The executive was quoted as saying that the company made the decision because the more chips it sells the more money it will lose based on the current DRAM price levels.
