johnd, "Analysts Differ About Effects Of Intel's Price Cuts on Chips"

A WSJ article posted on the Intel thread today.

Extracts:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"There will undoubtedly be a surge in demand as a result of
this [price cut], and associated with that comes better sales and
profits for the computer industry," Mr. Neff said.

Other analysts say the cheaper chips will accelerate a trend
among consumers to purchase computers in the $1,000 price
range, thus eroding the higher profits generated by more
expensive machines. The cheaper chips, some of which were
state of the art just a year ago, will create "growth in an
unattractive part of the market," said Roxane Googin, an
independent analyst.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hmmm - does anyone know the name of a company that would benefit from a surge in unit shipments, regardless of price of the machines? < g >

Best regards,

Arno

PS - maybe someone should mention to the WSJ that computers encompass hardware AND software.
