Is Sun looking for a storage partner?

upside.com

Interesting reading! Note that "HDS, a unit of Japan's Hitachi (HIT), is largely seen as a rising star in the storage market."

"It has a fraction of the market share that leader EMC has, but analysts say its hardware is competitive and is putting price pressure on the leader."

"The 9960 [high-end Lightning product] has the most creative, innovative storage architecture in the last 10 years," Zimmerman said.

"And apparently, some customers are taking note."

"In the last six months, Hitachi has done some pretty interesting business," said Wells Fargo Van Kasper analyst Brion Tanous. "They've been winning a lot of big contracts."

"He said Hitachi's software still lags behind EMC's applications. But new software from Hitachi continues to roll out, and Tanous said the company could become a formidable competitor to EMC."

"Any pressure on the edges certainly doesn't help EMC," he said.

The question is, could Hitachi Data Systems be interested in ADS?

Best O'Luck,

Tom
