Guess you are all reading your Camus (sigh)
So I'll talk to myself for a while, as it it looks like a boring market day.
Hmmmm, let's see. Edward Hamilton Bookseller was mentioned here a while back. I really love Ed, don't you JC? Yes, JC, I do. I can't imagine that any avid reader wouldn't. Not the web site, though. The print catalog that comes once a month or so. The one that looks like a tabloid newspaper and gets your fingers all dirty. 200 pages or thereabouts of small print. The first forty pages or so are "New Arrivals." New to Ed, that is. There are some current best sellers, but the majority are remainders. $29.95 hard-cover books for $3.95, typically.
But you know what the best thing is, JC? All of Ed's books truly are new. Pristine, including dustjacket. They smell like new books. That's why I hate library books. They smell moldy, corners are folded down, and there are chocolate smears (I hope!). Couldn't agree more, JC. Reading is more than just the words. I love the smell and look of a new book, puts me in the right mood.
Another thing, JC, is that Ed has so many books. I almost hate it when the catalog arrives, because it means that I will have to spend hours and hours poring through it, and frequently washing my hands. Sometimes I think, screw it, I'll just throw it out this time, I don't need this! But you know JC, I just can't. Because I know, absolutely know, that if I do it I will find five books that I never knew existed and that I will love. Never fails.
Talk about Chandra Levy -- How many people know the story of Richard Cox, the West Point cadet who simply vanished from the academy in the 1950s, without a trace? Well, actually, JC, I did know about that, because I was living in NYC at the time. But you mean there is a book about that? Yes, Ed has it. That's what I'm talking about, where else would you ever find something like that? I got my book about the Cardinals and the Browns from Ed. Who would of thought anyone would have written a whole book about them?
You do know, JC, that Ed only charges $3.00 for shipping, no matter how many books you order. And he practically ships overnight. Hardly ever is he out of any book in the catalog. I don't know how he does it, but if he ever stops, my life will be changed for the worse.
Gotta go. Nice talking to you, JC |
