Toss in inheritence and you have a system that leads to increasing disparity of wealth and influence. The negative feedback cycle is established by adjusting the tax rate to income rates such that those who earn more pay a higher rate. This reduces the feedback, additional income no longer adds to wealth and power with the same force. Of course it's not adequate the discuss the whole income tax structure in a couple of sentences. The goal of negative feedback is to prevent the real danger to democracy that would result from a permanant aristocracy. Negative feedback systems also distort, in this case it distorts the "treat all dollars alike" kind of purity that some people like, but on the whole it improves the stability of the system. TP
