CIS.com back to metals after numerous ventures
BY JAMES McNAIR

CIS.com, the Miami company that has taken its shareholders on a 17-year ride of one failed venture after another, is abandoning its attempt to build an Internet mall and will try gold mining instead.

The move announced Wednesday marks the company's return to the business of its inception in 1984 -- precious metals. Since then, it has had eight names, five chief executives and at least five business plans. Its stock, now quoted on the Nasdaq electronic bulletin board, is down 99.9 percent in value since 1989.

CIS.com said it will ``transition'' from an e-commerce company to one in search of mining acquisitions representing ``world-class'' reserves of at least 1 million ounces of gold or 1 billion pounds of copper. It said it is in talks to buy several ``significant'' projects in the western United States.

The stock price climbed 17 percent Wednesday, closing at 1.4 cents.
