should the government fund this research, in your opinion? My opinion is that the government has a role in funding research, in particular basic research. There should be oversite but you can't legislate the outcome of an experiment before it happens. The President is sometimes called upon to order troops to their death for the common good, perhaps a similar justification could be made for embryos ordered to their death for the good of society. As a practical matter the research will be performed somewhere in the world and that country's pharamacutical industry will get a big boost from the expected results. TP
