You are a riot.
Louis Pasteur, among many other things, disproved a long held belief that nonliving matter, could somehow produce living organisms. xrefer.com
This "scientific" theory, was known as spontaneous generation. It's a theory that although proved false, is still widely held by Atheists and evolutionists alike, yet strangely it seems to go unchallenged within their respective communities.

If you were as educated as you clearly implied you were, then you should have known that. There was nothing cryptic in my remark, and any reasonably educated person would have known by the context, just what I was referring to. Just as they would have if I mentioned him in a discussion about milk. Don't they teach that in British schools? He was French after all. You must have missed that class while you were learning how to pour tea while keeping your nose in the air. What a snob. Before you cast aspersions on others you should have a long look in the mirror old chap.

"Do other contemporary records from the large empires around the ME record him or Solomon? Do we see masses of coinage, great buildings (or the remains thereof), traces of great cities...?"

There is a little out of the way place you've probably never heard of, it's called Jerusalem, and there are the remains of a little stone building there that David's son Solomon built on a mountain called Marriah, where Abraham took Isaac at God's instruction. Go look at them for yourself.

How interesting that you don't believe that people with a written, recorded history, and present day archaeological remains, ever existed. Yet you seem to believe in spontaneous generation of life from nonlife,(evolution) and indeed, the self creation of the universe from nothing, by nothing and for nothing. As I recall, it was you that brought up a universe of cause and effect, I simply want to know what you think is the cause of the universe? If you say "I don't know" then how is it that you are so sure that I am wrong?

I am labeled as some backwoods obscurantist because I take the bible to be a reliable historical document that accurately chronicles the history of people, places and events that happen to include God and His working through and with these same people. You reject any account of the supernatural, outright, because of biased, philosophical presuppositions. That is your right, just don't feign neutrality when you clearly are not.

I don't reject science or the fruits of human endeavor, What I reject are Humanism, and Scientism, as belief systems, capable of adequately explaining the Human condition and the existence of the universe.
