I've owned two Compaqs and worked on several of them professionally. I think they suck.
I've owned an HP and it was okay, until I needed to upgrade it, then it got very cranky and erratic.
I've worked on many Dells professionally but never owned one. They are uniformly good machines.
Recently I just built my own machine. It's by far the best pc I've ever touched, but I planned it that way from the ground up.
Other than laptops, I'll never buy a factory built machine again. But if I did, I would go with Dell.

JMHO.
