I agree with this. The only caveat I would have is that product transition years, like this one, can be difficult, even for Intel. Therefore, Merced release plus one year may be a screaming year for INTC. However, this is not to say that I don't want to be holding INTC throughout these times. Another point is that Andy Grove said that 64 bit (Merced) and 32 bit (Pentium family) technologies would coexist, i.e., Merced will not kill off the pentium family.
