Hi Larry,

Here are the solutions to some of the questions you raised.

>In a previous response I made note of Iridium's advantage through the
airlines and on the open ocean. If my geography serves me correctly, the Earth is two-thirds water and there are thousands of square miles with no islands anywhere in sight.

True.. But I beleive that the foot print of a satellite is between
3000- 4000 miles in diameter. Thus as long as there is a gateway
on some island less than 3000 (worst case) miles from the East coast
there will be coverage over the Atlantic..... Similar situation holds for the Pacific (which has even more islands) and so on.

>Iridium is already working on a deal with the airlines to provide cellular service.
You are right... The "Travellers" are not globalstars primary market... But if that market proves to be lucrative enough, then I am sure Globalstar will step in...
There will definitely be a few Technical problems...which to be solved may need more $$... But GlobalStar has such a great lead in financial efficiency.

>Only the Iridium satellites with their switching capabilities could keep up with a fast moving aircraft
I am not clear on how switching capability in the satallite would
contribute to this... May be you or Maurice can help me with this..

>consensus is clearly in Iridium's corner as to the technically superior system
Irridium is definitely the more complex system... and may even find good use some day.... But in my engineering opinion a simple solution to a problem is always the technically superior solution.
And most people that I have talked to in the Satellite communications buisness (outside GlobalStar/Irridium) beleive that Irridiums project is too adventurous.....

All of my above opinions have been a result of my talking to technical people who know much more than I do in this regard ... so feel free to enlighten me on some thing that I might have missed / not consider.

Thanks

-Raj
