I guess Li Shaomin wasn't that much of a threat to China after all..

The Chinese convict him and then make arrangements to quickly deport him:

If Bejing keeps this up, they'll make being a "Spy" downright respectable.... :0)

dailynews.yahoo.com

BEIJING (Reuters) - Chinese-American scholar Li Shaomin was convicted on Saturday on charges of spying for Taiwan and ordered deported, China's official Xinhua news agency reported.

The State Department welcomed the decision to expel Li, a U.S. citizen living in Hong Kong, whose case has soured Sino- American relations and has been raised with the Chinese by President Bush (news - web sites).

It urged Beijing to release five other detained academics with ties to the United States.

The Xinhua report did not say when or to where Li would be deported. It did not refer to any jail sentence for the management professor.

But legal sources said that under China's law, the expulsion would likely come after the Beijing First People's Intermediate Court confirmed its verdict in writing -- a process that required five days.

His trial and expulsion comes five months after he disappeared into the hands of Chinese secret police during a visit to Shenzhen, a city on China's border with Hong Kong.

Btw, do you think winning the Olymics in 2008 had anything to do with the timing of this "conviction"?

I guess Bejing had behave from now on. What has been given, can be taken away.
