I believe what I believe because I've thought about it - a lot - not
because it happens to be written down in a book that somebody told me was
written by people who said that God told them what to write.

It defeats me how you can be so intelligent and so ignorant at the same time.

No matter how deeply you think, you get back to a place where all you can say is "this I believe because I believe it." I don't know where that point is for you, but I know it's there, even if you want to pretend in order to protect your ego that it isn't.

And your implication that religious people haven't thought about what they believe every bit as much as you have thought about what you believe is just arrogant ignorance. They have.

One of the uses of intelligence is to see that there is ambiguity in life, and that intelligent people can come to very different conclusions about basic questions of life. I'm sorry for you that you haven't gotten this understanding yet.

It is a weakness of youth. Maybe you are younger than I had taken you for.

When you grow up intellectually we can continue this discussion. At present, apparently you just don't have either the willingness or the capacity, I don't know which, to face truths that are unpalatable to your ego.

Too bad.
