There is a personal responsibility issue involved here. I would wager that our grandparents often had children they didn't want out of necessity, and then later were overjoyed they did. We have more ways in which to avoid pregnancy today then we can shake a stick at. But, so many of us want an easy quick-fix answer (after the fact), which alleviates our accountability and responsibility.


I mostly agree here. While I suspect that one reason infant mortality was higher for our grandparents was that they were eliminating some of the unexpected offspring after birth. Still, I wholeheartedly accept the idea that abortion should become very rare because there will be few pregnancies that are not desired. It's not going to happen if the only training the nubile get is JUST SAY NO, or maybe keep your legs crossed.
