Mqurice, I think everyone should have do reformat their hard drive and reinstall Windows and all their applications every year or so. (But first, backup all your data, etc.)

This clears out all the trash. I'm not talking about bookmarks (or even favorites) or cookies, both of which are readily manageable with easily available free tools. I am more concerned with a bloated and error-ridden registry.

At one time I could say with a straight face that what I did not know about how my PC worked, I could look up and understand. I do not believe that is true anymore without a great deal more study than I am ever likely to do.

I have been experiencing some internet performance issues for some time, and I am convinced there is something somewhere in the registry that is not correctly configured. When I ran Norton Systemworks' CleanSweep's RegistrySweep, it found there were 196,191 key values with 915 file references that do not match, 211 that it said were safe to delete. How can anyone honestly say that they know what all of those are?

It has been my experience that reformatting and reinstalling your software cuts the size of the registry dramatically and will virtually eliminate those file reference errors. The net effect of this is a system that runs faster and does not crash as often.
