Congratulations to China on winning the Olympics!
I think most Chinese will say "thank you".
Neither the Anglican or the Roman Catholic religions have much to do with Christ but much to do with politics.
If every religion has some sorta power to influence state politics, the religious people must be thinking that their God is staying behind them all the time, influencing the current politics as well. Whose side God should help then ? and if God doesn't listen to any group of people, those people would be very angry and very jealous at those with political power, because they now become minorities. Minority people, being governed by majorities, would become sitting ducks, losing political power, possibly enslaved by the majorities, as history has shown. But I don't believe in this story, because I'm a polytheist. I would say God likes the balance of power. He must be letting his smaller Gods/Goddesses handling their businesses, sometimes conflicting with each other. Perhaps, that's why we have wars among religious groups. Well ... Who knows ? Just a wild guess ...
However, the state must not influence the basic grass-roots culture of a nation thru support of the arts or the media. When that happens the life-blood of the people becomes impotent and sterile like we see in Canada.
oh media ... wondering why every war must include a battle about controlling a radio station, a TV tower, whatever that seems to find appeal to the mass for political messages. Religiously speaking, if God wants a particular group of people to control the media and talk with big mouths in hypocrisy, why doesn't he just jump down from heaven and says "I want you ... you ... and you". I think wise politicians have to control the media in certain way. This is a MUST, unfortunately.
