The vast majority of citizens are exposed to political sound bites. One must lie, in the fewest words possible, on a significant media outlet to sooth the needs of the in-between-voters. (It is assumed 33% vote democratic regardless of the issues, 33% republican regardless of the issues, and the remaining 33% can be manipulated.)

Although nobody likes to put it in these words, it is the truth. If a "true" politician stated these facts, then their comments would be the sound bite the public would hear. This, in turn, would defeat the intention and effect of political manipulation.
