The company was founded in 1999 by four North Carolina State University graduate students researching gallium nitride.

GaN seems to be the system with breakthroughs by the "little guys" <g>

Luck to them.

Neat idea to convert the Si (111) into SiC. I wonder how they do that w/o destroying the crystallinity?

This GaN sure must not like to grow normal to the substrate!

Pretty significant breakthrough. I wonder if the thermal conductance is sufficient?
