Then why does Bejing consider so attractive that they are willing to risk regional war over the island?

You and I both know that Taiwan is the heart of Asia's semiconductor industry. That's makes it something special. Most computer motherboards are manufactured there (remember the earthquake that everyone worried would disrupt the computer industry?)

It's also an alternative political system that scares the begeezus out of the communists because it represents the success that has eluded the communists for the past 50 years.

And there is little that Russia desires from China. In fact, it's the other way around as China has had designs on Siberia for years.

Among the elitists, their power are pretty much "checked".

By whom??... fellow members of the "unchosen few"?

Certainly no avenue of checks and balances exist for the common Chinese person, as they are just pawns in the hands of the "elites". No inalienable constitutional rights. No freedom to speak their minds if it is contrary to the "party line". No property rights. No economic freedom unless they pay off the right people.

As for the Palesinians, their current problems stem back to a whole laundry lists of "bad decisions" by the leaders over the past 50 years. They are the ones who sought to destroy Israel. They are the ones who sought to overthrow King Hussein of Jordan. They are the ones who have had opportunity after opportunity to make peace, but have instead, chosen conflict.

The mid-east is screwed up because it consists of artificial states and kingdoms carved out of the former Ottoman Empire. There is a constant power struggle between their own "unchosen few" who have amassed incredible wealth at the expense of their people.

And in the middle are the Palestinian people, led astray by criminals like Arafat (who has had sole control over the Billions of dollars that have passed through the PLO).
