DENVER, July 16 /PRNewswire/ -- J.D. Edwards & Company (Nasdaq: JDEC - news), a leading provider of agile, collaborative solutions for the Internet economy, announced that they will port J.D. Edwards enterprise and supply chain applications on 64-bit Compaq (NYSE: CPQ - news) ProLiant(TM) industry-standard servers powered by the new Intel® Itanium(TM) Processor. The joint solution was showcased recently at FOCUS 2001, the J.D. Edwards user group conference.

J.D. Edwards' long-standing relationship with Compaq brings together the hardware and software development communities to advance new and emerging solutions for 64-bit industry-standard computing. J.D. Edwards is also part of the Compaq TrailBlazer program, which enables the application development community and early adopter companies to realize the benefits of the emerging 64-bit architecture for Microsoft's 64-bit Windows Advanced Server Limited Edition and Linux-based applications on market-leading Compaq ProLiant servers.

The Itanium processor provides features that enable scalability, performance, investment protection, and choice for high-end servers. It is the first product in the Itanium processor family based on the Explicitly Parallel Instruction Computing (EPIC) architecture and incorporates a number of new technologies, features, and capabilities that make it ideal for the high-end server and workstation markets. EPIC allows users to take advantage of its large memory addressability, massive register resources, and parallel execution capabilities. Additionally, Itanium-based systems will offer enhanced data transaction security and performance for e-commerce transactions. These features will combine to enable the performance necessary to maintain a high-volume, responsive e-business site.
