What do you think about Ruiz's comment in CC that AMD is using Moto's SOI process and IBM's design methodology?

Well, I don't remember the exact comment. But....to me....if AMD is licensing IBM's design kit, they are designing a chip to conform to IBM's process technology. It would therefore be built using IBM's process. I don't believe IBM is licensing the process so it means IBM will be fabbing it in their fabs. I still think this is this Barton chip which is the.13um IBM SOI process analog of
.18um Palomino. If they licensed the design kit 6 months ago, I would expect the .13um IBM SOI version should be complete by now. So, it may all ready be in IBM's fabs. If they are extremely fortunate, they could work out all the bugs by year end for a product launch in the late first/early second quarter of next year. I would think this would be a killer laptop chip since we all ready know Palomino is superior to PIII on .18um. It would scale higher in freq at lower power than Tualatin and be extremely cheap to make. I would guess a little over 70mm2 on the .13um IBM SOI process if they go with an additional 256K L2. Additionally, I would think this would guarantee several AMD laptops in IBM's line. Perhaps even some low power server line as well. I continue to have little or no faith in Moto's SOI contribution. Perhaps, the IBM deal is a backup if the Moto process falls thru. I still don't see any Moto SOI process for Apple.
