The part about Intel sounds a very slight bit less bearish than previous comments. Probably Osha covering his behind.

John, The comments in that post:
Our checks also indicate that after a slow start, Intel is beginning to
see a pickup in P4 design activity. Whether this is the result of improving
demand or Intel's aggressive pricing is difficult to say, but regardless of the
reason we think that Intel's P4 ramp will be accelerating in the coming month.

Actually, those comments out of Merrill in that post almost seem bullish!

I remember Osha had been so repetitive on his channel stuffing theory, what seemed like weekly comments....in an attempt to bring the stock down. He did this before and after the mid quarter update. I actually got tired of reading about it so often.

The odd thing has been that I have not heard those comments from him lately. He just stopped all of a sudden. Maybe having second thoughts or thinking about upgrading one notch on their scale?

Could it be that he heard that anger out of AMD last week and changed his mind on Intel? I certainly took the AMD cc as bullish for Intel.

The only high profile analysts that seem very negative on Intel are SG Cowen's Drew Peck and Dan Niles of Lehman. Peck was bullish on AMD, so might have lost some credibility. He has not been bullish on Intel even when he should have been. He seems to dislike Intel almost as much as AMD's CEO Sanders.<g>
Saw Niles on CNBC this afternoon and he was not about to change his mind on Intel and you could even see the stock tick down afterhours just upon his comments (well before the NVLS cc).

Speaking of analysts, Ashok Kumar is the one that can probably move this stock the most..he called the top on it start of September. He has a buy rating but not an "aggressive buy". Even some positive comments out of him would be good for the bulls on Intel.

There should be some daring analysts out there who will try to make a name for themselves by talking up or down the stock AHEAD of earnings.

It is going to be an interesting day. At least we have NVLS and AMAT behind us now.
