<<Not to mention that if INTC says some not-so-nice stuff about their cap ex tomorrow, that "support" will be illusory, at best.>>

Two thoughts on this, Patron. One, you're right. But Two, for the last two quarters, this same argument has been made. Intel hasn't cooperated yet, and it's very possible they will wait a little later in the year (to see if there's a rebound, natch <g>), before they officially lower projections on cap-ex.

Add into this that Novellus' earnings weren't well received tonight, and the chip equip folks fell further after the bell. If that move holds into the open, the Sox will dip some more and that AMAT support at 40 will be tested very soon. I leave with something from that Novellus report, said by the CEO, I believe. . .

He said all regions notched sales declines, both on a sequential basis and a year-over-year basis. As far as orders go, North America and Korea were the only two regions that marked increased bookings for the quarter. Also, Novellus' customers were still canceling orders during the quarter.
"We'd like to think this is the bottom, but it's tough to say," Hill said
