I understand what you're saying. A book to read "Market Wizards, II" which gives some personal insight into profesional, individual day traders returns, personalities. If you have a good system, and you stick with it, understand it, and it works for you, it's not extremely difficult to outperform the index (it is, I suppose, if you do it part time). Lynch was forbade, really, by Magellan's fund document to do day trading. Some stocks do not fit the typical model for timing, some do.
