:) yeah-it was hard to work up a lot of concern for his fate when he was so blasé. Meersault defines the term "flat affect".

I loved the style. It was very Hemingway or something- bare- no descriptive words and so when I found myself "seeing" things or reacting to the book, I was surprised somehow. I suppose that is great writing.
Which translation did you use?
Dan suggested I read The Plague- he really liked that one a lot more.

Did you see Meersault as the "image of excess and repulsion", an "outrageous figure on the margin"? Because at first, I thought, 0h my god, I'm an existentialist and I didn;t know it.
